Kalispel Tribe hosts 'PikePalooza' to address invasive species

The Kalispel Tribe of Washington is hosting a "PikePalooza" this weekend to reduce an invasive species of fish.

Cash prizes will be awarded for bringing in the northern pike. The fish is blamed for reducing runs of native trout and salmon.

"We know what will happen if we do nothing, and it's not a pretty picture," Jason Connor, the tribe's fisheries management program manager, told The Wall Street Journal.

The reservation borders the Box Canyon Reservoir, where the omnivorous pike have migrated in recent decades from other parts of the U.S. where they are not considered harmful.
