Darrin Old Coyote, the chairman of the Crow Tribe of Montana, will testify about energy production at a hearing before the House Natural Resources Committee this afternoon.

The tribe recently signed a coal development deal with Cloud Peak Energy, a non-Indian company. The reservation's coal deposit is estimated to contain 1.4 billion tons.

Old Coyote's appearance in Washington, D.C., comes after an underground gas pipeline burst on the reservation. An estimated 42,000 gallons spilled in a 10-acre area, according to news reports.

The hearing takes place at 2pm in Room 1324 of the Longworth House Office Building. It will be webcast.
