Judge dismisses suit for early voting on Pine Ridge Reservation

A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit over early voting on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

Members of the Oglala Sioux Tribe sued in early 2012 due to the lack of voting services in Shannon County. The county ended up opening an early voting station for last year's elections and has agreed to provide similar services for elections in 2014, 2016 and 2018.

As a result, Judge Karen Schreier determined there was nothing to decide. She said it was too early to consider whether to force the county to establish early voting for 2020 and beyond.
