Fashion designer Patricia Michaels of Taos Pueblo denies claims that she stole her own pieces from an art gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Michaels showed her works at the Legends Gallery over the weekend during the busy Santa Fe Indian Market. On Monday, she allegedly took several pieces that had already been sold -- items worth an estimated $20,000.

“That’s hilarious,” Michaels told The Santa Fe Reporter in response. “I was picking up inventory so I can fulfill orders.”

Michaels chalked the incident up to a miscommunication but the gallery called the police to report the theft.
