Another dispute over attorney fees in Cobell trust fund suit

A nonprofit that supported the Cobell trust fund lawsuit is seeking $4.5 million from the $3.4 billion settlement to the case.

The Lannan Foundation said solo practitioner Dennis Gingold and the Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton law firm agreed to repay the grants out of any fees they were awarded. But the nonprofit says it hasn't been repaid even though the settlement provided $99 million in fees.

Most of the fees, around $85 million, have already been paid to Gingold and Kilpatrick Townsend. Another $13 million is tied up in a dispute with the nonprofit Native American Rights Fund and attorney Mark Brown, who also worked on the case.
