Obama resubmits Keith Harper nomination for UN council job

President Barack Obama has resubmitted the nomination of nomination of Keith Harper, a member of the Cherokee Nation, to serve in an ambassador-rank post.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted last month to approve Harper as the United States Representative to the United Nations Human Rights Council. But the full Senate never voted on the nomination before the end of the 1st session of the 113th Congress.

So Obama sent the nomination back to the Senate. If Harper is confirmed, he will be the first member of a federally recognized tribe to serve in an ambassador-rank post.
