Cherokee Nation Council backs Keith Harper for ambassador

The Cherokee Nation Council passed a resolution in support of Keith Harper for an ambassador-rank post.

Harper has been nominated to serve as the United States Representative to the United Nations Human Rights Council. He is a Cherokee Nation citizen.

“Keith is known for many things,” Cherokee Nation Council Member Cara Cowan-Watts said on Monday, The Tahlequah Daily Press reported. “For those who applied for funds through the Cobell settlement, you have Keith to thank for that. He really drove that to fruition."

Harper's position requires Senate confirmation. A hearing hasn't been scheduled.
