I called because I got a disturbing call from a mom from Gilson Wash whose 18-year-old daughter who tested positive for HIV while giving blood. She said most likely it was transmitted from San Carlos. There continues to be an increase in tribal members who have HIV. I am in the middle of testing babies before they are “clear” of the virus. No help from the tribal health department. None. Both parents are positive. Where do they go? My reason for calling is: What is the health department doing for National Native American AIDS Awareness Day in March? What is the health department doing for testing? Privacy code: Is HIV privacy being protected? Trainings? Tao, how many trainings have been conducted since the passing? I have been selected by Washington, D.C. to be an Ambassador for National Women and Girls National HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, also in March. What is our tribe doing or have planned?
