Oneida Nation awaits court approval of deal in New York

The Oneida Nation is still waiting for federal court approval of its settlement with the state of New York.

The deal resolves a slew of land, taxation, jurisdiction and gaming issues. It ends litigation over a pending land-into-trust application and caps total acquisitions to about 25,000 acres.

The federal government was not a party to the settlement. But the Interior Department won't oppose it, a tribal spokesperson said.

“Everything has been ratified,” spokesperson Brett Stagnitti told The Oneida Daily Dispatch.
