Child reported missing after blaze destroys home on First Nation

A nine-year-old girl is missing and presumed dead after a fire destroyed her family's home on the Witchekan Lake First Nation in Saskatchewan.

A resident was able to carry out several people from the home. But he apparently couldn't make it to the basement to rescue the girl.

"This is just devastating. Our hearts go out to the family," Witchekan Lake Chief Steven Jim told The Saskatoon StarPhoenix.

The fire occurred early Sunday morning.
