The Diné Medicine Men Association passed a resolution against the continued use of the Washington professional football team's racist mascot.

The resolution calls on President Barack Obama and Congress to acknowledge the harmful impact of the mascot. It also urges Navajo President Ben Shelly to support a ban on the name though the Navajo Nation Council.

The Navajo Nation Human Rights Commission, an official tribal entity, is also calling for an end to the name. But the Navajo Code Talkers Association, a non-profit, and some of its members, have endorsed the controversial mascot.

Navajo Nation Council Delegate Lavar Butler has introduced a bill to oppose the mascot. He wants to clarify the tribe's position.
