Mohegan Tribe diversifies economy with wood pellet factories





The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut is entering the wood pellet industry.

The tribe is buying a company that owns facilities in Ohio, Virginia and Indiana. Northeast Wood Products, a tribal subsidiary, will produce wood pellets for home use.

"The Mohegan Tribe is happy to be involved in a venture that combines its overall philosophy of a reverence for the Earth with a solid business model," Chairman Kevin Brown said in a statement, according to news reports.
