The Choctaw Nation and the Chickasaw Nation signed an agreement affecting management of a health clinic in Oklahoma.

The Durant Indian Health Clinic is located in Durant, the Choctaw Nation capital. Under a 1996 agreement, the Chickasaw Nation staffed the facility.

The Choctaw Nation will now fully run the clinic. The two tribes signed a new memorandum of agreement last month.

“We’re brothers and sisters,” Chickasaw Nation Gov. Anoatubby said in a press release. “We have a long, long relationship – a good one – and this is another step toward the Choctaw Nation operating the clinic and continuing to improve health care here."

The Choctaw Nation will retain nearly all of the clinic staff who were formerly employed by the Chickasaw Nation.
