The House Subcommittee on Indian and Alaska Native Affairs will hold a legislative hearing next week. Four bills are on the agenda. They are:
• H.R.3229, the Indian Health Service Advance Appropriations Act. The bill appropriates funds for the Indian Health Service for two years in advance.The hearing takes place at 11am on July 15. A witness list hasn't been posted online. Committee Notice:
• H.R.4546, the Department of the Interior Tribal Self-Governance Act. The bill streamlines the process for approving self-governance compacts and annual funding agreements at the Interior Department.
• H.R.4867, the Economic Development Through Tribal Land Exchange Act. The bill places land into trust for the Morongo Band of Mission Indians in California.
• S.1603, the Gun Lake Trust Land Reaffirmation Act. The bill ensures that land placed in trust for the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatami Indians in Michigan can't be challenged under the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar.
