Indian community in Colombia in mourning after lightning strike

A remote Indian community in Colombia is in mourning after a lightning strike killed at least 11 people, including a prominent indigenous leader and several children, and injured at least 14 others.

According to news reports, Ramon Gil, a Wiwa spiritual and political leader, was killed when the lightning struck a group of people who were participating in a ceremony on the Kemakumake Indigenous Reservation. Gil's son, nephew and two of his grandchildren were among those who died.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos sent his condolences to the community in a message on his Twitter account.
