The Senate Indian Affairs Committee held a hearing on S.2479, the Moapa Band of Paiutes Land Conveyance Act, on Wednesday. Chairwoman Aletha Tom of the Moapa Band of Paiute Indians testified in support of the bill. It adds 26,565 acres to the reservation. Tom said the tribe plans to use one segment for housing while another would be used for recreational and conservation purposes. A third would be set aside for cultural purposes and the remaining lands would be used for renewable energy development. The hearing lasted about an hour and 29 minutes.
