Chairman of Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe resigns after seven years

Elwood Lowery, the chairman of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe of Nevada, resigned unexpectedly this week.

Lowery held the post for more than seven years, The Reno Gazette-Journal reported. But the reasons for his departure haven't been disclosed, the paper said.

Vice chairman Vinton Hawley will act as interim chair, the paper reported. The tribal council will meet to decide what to do about the position.
