The U.S. Attorneys from North Dakota and South Dakota, known for their focus on Indian Country, are stepping down to work at the same law firm.

Tim Purdon from North Dakota and Brendon Johnson from South Dakota are joining Robins Kaplan. Purdon will open an office in Bismarck, North Dakota, and Johnson will open one in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

“Tim Purdon has been an outstanding United States Attorney, a fierce advocate for the people of North Dakota, and a strong national leader whose efforts to improve public safety in Indian Country have made a profound difference – and touched countless lives,” Attorney General Eric Holder said in a press release.

"As a lawyer and as a leader, Brendan has set a standard of excellence that will not soon be surpassed. Particularly with regard to public safety challenges on tribal lands, he has served as a key advisor to senior Justice Department officials—including me," Holder said in another press release.

Purdon currently serves as chair of the Native American Issues Subcommittee, which advises Holder on Indian issues. Johnson was past chair.

Purdon and Johnson worked to improve relations with tribes in their respective states. They also prosecuted more Indian Country crimes, particularly cases involving violence against Indian women.
