Thanks to cooperation among multiple law enforcement agencies, authorities have a suspect in custody in connection with a deadly shooting on the Crow Reservation in Montana on Wednesday.

The Park County Sheriff's Department in Wyoming apprehended a man accused of killing Tana Shane, 50, and Jason Shane, 52. The couple's daughter, Jorah Shane, 24, also was shot and is being treated for her injuries.

Sheriff Scott Steward did not identify the alleged suspect at the request of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the lead agency on the investigation. But news reports named him as Jesus Deniz, a resident of Wyoming.

“(He) killed both of them and then shot the daughter,” Bryce John Hugs, a nephew of the murdered couple, told The Billings Gazette.

The incident took place in Pryor, a community near the western border of the Crow Reservation. The shooting occurred around 10:30am, the Gazette reported.

Law enforcement quickly responded to the scene and alerted other agencies about a potential suspect who fled the reservation in a vehicle that belonged to the Shanes. At around 11:49am, a Parks County Sheriff’s deputy in Wyoming spotted the car and followed the driver for about 45 minutes while waiting for backup.

Once assistance from the Wyoming Highway Patrol arrived, Deniz was pulled over arrested at around 12:30pm on a county road north of Meeteetse.

“The decision by the deputy to wait for backup was absolutely the right thing to do,” Steward said in a press release. “And I want to thank the members of the Wyoming Highway Patrol for their immediate response. This was a joint effort all the way.”

Deniz lives in Worland, Wyoming, according to his Facebook page. Worland is about an hour east of the area in which he was apprehended.

It's not clear why Deniz was in Pryor, about three hours north of Worland. But Bryce John Hugs said his aunt and uncle had stopped to help him because he apparently ran out of gas, the Gazette reported.

“When they came back to help him, that’s when it all took place,” Hugs told the paper.

"Today has been a tragic day for my Rock Above and Hugs families," Hugs added on Facebook. He vowed to help the couple's other children -- they had five sons and two daughters.
