The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut is holding an election for four council seats, The New London Day reports.

Three incumbents -- Mark Brown, Thayne Hutchins Jr. and Cheryl Todd -- are running for re-election, the paper said. Five others are also in the running: Joe Smith, Jay Ihloff, Joseph Soper, Merilee Roussat and Tim Bartha.

Balloting closes on August 30, the paper said. The four top vote-getters will be sworn into office in October.

The council has nine seats, five of which are not up for election. Kevin Brown serves as chairman.

The tribe typically does not disclose much about its elections.
