The Colville Tribes of Washington will see $13.3 million from the Ramah Navajo contract support costs settlement, council member Billy Nicholson said.

The tribe was part of a class action that forced the Bureau of Indian Affairs to fully fund self-determination contracts The $13.3 million payment would cover the shortfalls -- otherwise known as contract support costs -- that the tribe is owed.

"Assuming the court agrees the proposed settlement is fair, payments might be made late summer or early fall," Nicholson wrote in The Tribal Tribune, the tribe's newspaper.

The overall settlement totaled $940 million. More than 600 tribes and tribal entities are slated to benefit.
