The Mohegan Tribe continues efforts to diversify its economy with approval of a development project in Norwich, Connecticut.

Voters overwhelmingly supported an agreement to sell the site of the former Norwich Hospital to the tribe. Plans call for an outdoor theme park, an indoor water park, hotels, a sports complex, retail outlets, housing, a recreational vehicle facility and a marina at the 388-acre property.

"We look forward to a long future together and to developing a project that will not only make Preston residents proud, but will strengthen the local economy and the state as a whole," Chairman Kevin Brown said in a press release, The New London Day reported.

The site is located across the Thames River from the tribe's reservation but there are no plans to have the land placed into trust.
