Traditional Blackfeet music is part of a course being offered during the summer graduate program at Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Teachers Peter Shea and Gary Middle Rider Jr, a Blackfeet student from Montana in the Native American studies program at Blackfeet Community College, present to students various types of Blackfeet and other Native music as well as crash course in culture and history.

Middle Rider says Native music is a "resurgence" in American culture.

The GRAMMY awards recently announced the creation of a new Native music category, although there appears to be contention on just what that means, depending on whom you ask.

The July 15 issue of the trade-industry magazine Billboard will feature Native musicians, including Jana, a Lumbee singer whose single "Ooh Baby Baby" is gaining national attention, and Santa Fe, New Mexico resident Star Nayea, one of Indian Country's favorite female performers.
