The Four Hills Wellness Center of the Omaha Nation and students from Creighton University opened their Big Elk camp on the Nebraska reservation in Macy this week. Named after former Omaha chief Big Elk, the camp is focused on improving the health and wellness of Omaha children.

The camp was organized by Wehnona St. Cyr, director of the tribe's wellness center. She cited concerns over drug and alcohol abuse and increased sexual activity as some of the issues the tribe hopes to address.

200 people participated in a 20-mile walk to honor Omaha who have died of alcohol-related deaths. The camp concludes this weekend.
