With the first GRAMMY award created solely for Native American artists set to be announced tonight on television, industry insiders are already looking for a new category to honor contemporary musicians. The GRAMMYs added the Best Native American Music Album category last year. Five traditional recordings were chosen and the winner will be announced tonight. A contemporary music category would address the amount of diversity in the field, say industry leaders. Tune in to CBS at 8PM Eastern Standard Time to catch the awards ceremony. The Nominees:
Tribute To The Elders - The Black Lodge Singers (Canyon)
Cheyenne Nation - Joseph Fire Crow (Makoche)
Veterans Songs - Lakota Thunder (Makoche)
Peacemaker's Journey - Joanne Shenandoah (Silverwave)
