The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating a mold that is linked to health problems and the death of an infant on the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Reservation in North Dakota.

In July, the CDC collected samples from 138 housing units. Preliminary data suggests that 76 percent of homes had mold and 79 percent had water damage.

According to chairman Richard Monette, the mold has infected 320 homes. Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) recently visted homes on the reservation and obtained $5 million to help the tribe.

Molds can cause allergic reactions, coughing, fever and headaches. For those with asthma or weakened immune systems, it can cause serious respiratory problems.
