Representative Thomas Reynolds (R-New York) said on Wednesday the government is planning on suing private landowners but the Department of Justice said they haven't decided to pursue the case on behalf of the Seneca Nation.

Reynolds also wrote a letter to President Clinton on Tuesday, asking him not to pursue a claim. According to Reynolds, the Justice Department will sue for 100,000 acres of land in western New York, which includes his district.

Reynolds said the Department of Interior told state officials a lawsuit would proceed. But a BIA spokesperson said the suit is not under active consideration.
