The Connecticut town of North Stonington is asking for $60,000 from budget planners to make sure the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation pays a disputed tax bill.

The money will be used to oppose a court appeal the tribe has filed. The tribe believes it is being unfairly taxed on more than 2,000 acres of land worth anywhere from $12.5 million to $4.5 million.

The tribe supports the lower number. Even with a reduced tax bill, the tribe and tribal enterprises are the largest taxpayers in North Stonington.
