TUESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2001 The National Imagery and Mapping Agency on Friday finalized a $2.2 billion federal contract with an Alaska Native-owned venture. The contract to NJVC LL, which is jointly owned by Arctic Slope Regional Development Corp. and Chenega Corp., is being challenged by government employee unions who protest the "sole source" policy of various federal departments. The policy allows agencies to award contracts to Native firms without soliciting other bids. Several Democrat lawmakers, allies of labor unions, were protesting the contract, the largest ever to a Native-owned firm. Get the Story:
