Al Gore could have been the President of the United States if Supreme Court Justice David H. Souter would have had another day to convince Anthony M. Kennedy to keep counting votes from last year's disputed election, according to a report published in the September 17 issue of Newsweek.

In a 5-4 decision split along liberal-conservative lines, the Supreme Court last December ruled to stop counting votes in Florida. The decision effectively handed George W. Bush the presidency.
