The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday approved the nomination of Sharon Prost to the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.

Prost is a Republican staffer of the committee and aide to Orrin Hatch (R-Utah.), the ranking GOP. She was nominated to the post in May.

A number of national women's organizations rallied to Prost's side in a custody battle for her children. A Washington, DC, judge ruled against her, saying she spent too much time at work.

Prost's nomination now goes to the full Senate. The Federal Circuit court hears a number of cases affecting Indian Country.

The court most recently upheld the landmark Cobell trust fund decision.
