Mohegan chairman says recognition bill unfair

The chairman of the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut says a bill to give money to local communities to fight federal recognition won't level the playing field. Chairman Mark Brown said the bill is unfair to tribes that don't have many resources. But local communities would get $8 million to challenge the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Rep. Nancy Johnson (R-Conn.) introduced the bill. She is upset that the BIA recognized the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation and has asked for a General Accounting Office investigation. Get the Story:
