Mexican Cherokees found refuge in New Orleans
Friday, October 3, 2003

There are Cherokees in Mexico. How did they get there?

Mexican Cherokee Jahtlohi Rogers explains. White settlers in Texas tried to exterminate the Cherokee people. So with little food or clothing, some fled to New Orleans, Louisiana, where they found refuge.

Rogers says the people of New Orleans secured passage to Mexico, where some Cherokees remain.
