Developer wants to build near Old Chief Joseph's grave
Friday, December 12, 2003

A developer wants to build homes near the resting place of Nez Perce leader Old Chief Joseph.

The 62-acre site is located in Oregon by the Old Chief Joseph Monument and Cemetery. It marks the start of the 1,170-mile Nee-Me-Poo Trail, which was used by Chief Joseph, Old Chief Joseph's son, to flee Army forces who were trying to force all the Nez Perce onto a reservation.

K&B Limited Family Partnership is proposing to build 11 homes on the site. The Wallowa County Planning Commission is to decide whether to approve the development at a meeting next Wednesday.
