Lumbee tribal council members in apparent spat
Friday, December 19, 2003

The Lumbee tribal council has lacked a quorum for its past two meetings. Some council members say their colleagues are deliberately skipping the meetings.

The council attempted to have another session yesterday but only 10 of 21 members showed, The Fayetteville Observer reported. Those who attended said the missing are trying to avoid discussion of controversial issues, including frozen housing funds and a nondisclosure document employees were asked to sign. They said the missing want to wait until next year to meet, when the new chairman is sworn in, to have their way.
