The Western Heritage Center in Montana will host the American Indian Tribal Histories Project, funded by a $1 million grant from the Department of Interior.

Francine Bear Don't Walk, a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe, is director of the project. She will work with Crow and Northern Cheyenne field directors to train tribal college students on how to record and preserve oral histories, do historical research, build exhibits and collect artifacts and photos, The Billings Gazette reported.

The project will create photo books for the Crow and Northern Cheyenne tribes, an interactive DVD encyclopedia of each tribe's history and culture and exhibits at the center.
