Town wants tribes out of report
OCTOBER 31, 2000

The town of North Stonington wants references to three Pequot tribes out of a report prepared by a paid consultant.

A consultant drafted a report on conservation and development for the town. Joel S. Russell recommended the town enter into talks with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and two local Pequot tribes.

But the town says Russell's recommendations run counter to their already developed position on the tribes. The town opposes the expansion of the Mashantucket Reservation (but lost a recent lawsuit) and the federal recognition of the Eastern Pequot and the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribes.

The town plans a meeting with Russell to discuss the report.
