Narragansett supporters rally

JUNE 28, 2000

Along with members of the tribe, supporters of the Narragansett Tribe rallied at the Rhode Island State House to call for a reconsideration of the tribe's casino proposal in West Warwick. The tribe hopes to collect 100,000 signatures in order to persuade the General Assemly to reconvene for a special September session and put their proposal on the November ballot.

A bill that would have placed the proposal on the ballot was killed in the House last week after being tabled by the House Finance Committee. The tribe needs voter approval to open a casino.
