Attempt to save whale fails

WEDNESDAY, JULY 11, 2001 An attempt by a team of federal scientists to save an endangered North Atlantic right whale trapped in a fishing line off the coast of Massachusetts failed on Tuesday. The National Marine Fisheries Service said poor weather and visibility thwarted the rescue effort. Unless the whale is freed, it will die, say scientists.
