Eastern Shoshone Tribe extends Class III gaming deal to 2046

The Eastern Shoshone Tribe and the state of Wyoming have extended their Class III gaming compact to 2046.

Gov. Matt Mead (R) met with tribal leaders last week to sign the deal, The Riverton Ranger reported. He said the extension should ensure stability as the tribe embarks on a $28 million casino expansion of the Shoshone Rose Casino in Lander.

The tribe is bringing a 65-room hotel, a larger gaming floor, an outdoor patio, conference rooms, a swimming pool and a coffee bar to the facility. The expansion, which is being financed by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota, is expected to be complete in the summer of 2016.

"The tribe uses gaming revenue to address deficits in resources for education, health, housing, safety employment and law enforcement," Chairman Darwin St. Clair said in a letter to Mead, the Ranger reported. "The reservation and the state economy are more productive as a result of these investments."

St. Clair asked the state for a seat on its gaming committee to ensure it has a voice as the industry grows in Wyoming. Mead said he was agreeable to the request, the Ranger reported.
