Hualapai Tribe awarded $2M in federal grants

The Hualapai Tribe of Arizona has received $2 million in federal grants from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Department of Agriculture's rural utilities program.

The tribe will use the money to build a solar energy project at its airport. The 250-kilowatt system will reduce costs at the airport by eliminating the dependence on diesel generators.

The tribe lives at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, making air travel and the airport a necessity.
