Mashantucket Tribe elects Reels as vice chair

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut elected Kenneth M. Reels as vice chair during its annual meeting on Sunday.

Reels, a council member, beat Charlene Jones, the tribal secretary, for the post. He is replacing longtime leader Richard A. Skip Hayward, who did not run for re-election.

Reels chaired the tribe during a tumultuous period in its history. Local officials and outsiders questioned the tribe's heritage and land purchases.
