Gates Foundation awards grant for Indian education

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded a $6.1 million grant to improve graduation and college attendance rates among Native students in Washington.

Antioch University will use the money to open seven Early College High Schools in the state to serve Native students. The grant will also be used to start work on 10 more schools in five to eight other states.

The program has already been used on the Tulalip Reservation. The Tulalip Heritage School offers college-level courses to high school students.
