A northern New Mexico tribe's fight to save a sacred site from mining has ended with the purchase of the land from a bankrupt company.

Picuris Pueblo bought the mica mine from Oglebay Norton Specialty Minerals Inc. Details of the deal weren't disclosed.

The tribe has used the site to collect mica for pottery and gather medicinal plants. The tribe says the land has always been part of its reservation but that the U.S. government gave it away.
