Man linked to Indian gangs killed by officer

A Minnesota man being linked to gang activity at an Indian housing complex in Minneapolis was fatally shot by a police officer early Saturday.

Benjamin Gene Decoteau, 21, was killed after allegedly shooting a gun at an officer who returned fire. A 27-year-old relative of Decoteau's mother was involved in the incident as well.

Police say Decoteau was a suspect in three cases, including a recent gang-related shooting at the Little Earth housing complex. But his mother, Annette Strong, said he was harassed because he refused to join a gang.

Gangs have been a big problem on Minnesota reservations.
