A member of the Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes of Montana was killed in an accident on a highway in Las Vegas, a death her sister blames on a cabdriver.

LariAnn Vest, 25, and a friend got into a cab early Friday morning. The driver stopped the vehicle on the side of Interstate 15, claiming Vest had hit him.

Upon stopping, Vest got out of the cab and wandered onto the highway. She was struck by three other vehicles.

Nikki Vest, 22, says the driver acted irresponsibly. She acknowledged LariAnn had been drinking but said it was unsafe to pull over on a busy interstate. An investigation into the accident is underway.

LariAnn was president of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She majored in civil engineering and was set to graduate in spring 2006.
