Leaders of at least three Alaska Native regional corporations are asking Congress to ensure they receive a share of development revenues from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Normally, Native corporations are required to share revenues from mineral development. But under a secret deal negotiated by the Reagan administration, the Arctic Slope Regional Corp. was given exclusive rights within ANWR.

Leaders of Sealaska Corp., Calista Corp. and Ahtna Inc. now want Congress to step in. They say ASRC should be required to share revenues before being allowed to drill for oil and gas in ANWR.
