Editorial: Economic development a solution


"James Wolfensohn's tour of the Pine Ridge Reservation was symbolic of a growing awareness - in some quarters - of a real solution to many problems on Indian reservations.

That is economic development.

Wolfensohn, outgoing president of the World Bank, said private ownership is the key to easing world poverty - poverty illustrated on reservations around the United States.

Economic development isn't the only answer. But it's vital and can pave the way for reforms in education and health care."
