Commentary: Natives, Jews divided by 'one bigot'

"There's trouble between the tribes in Canada – the Israelite ones and the aboriginal ones, that is.

It isn't just that David Ahenakew, a former head of the Assembly of First Nations who earned an Order of Canada medal in 1978 for advancing the cause of his people, is back in the headlines. His hate-speech trial for an anti-Semitic rant he made in December 2002 was expected to do that. But the highly public nature of the trial, which wound down earlier this month, has generated a separate controversy over relations between Jews and Indians in Canada even sharper than the original scandal."
