Column: Tribe opens children's learning center

"There is something about a kid's smile that makes you feel good.

In this case, the smile belonged to one of nine little guys and gals who were eating their lunch at the O-Gah-Pah Learning Center in Quapaw, Okla. Well, actually all nine kids were smiling. The kid I'm talking about was not only smiling, he was holding out a piece of his corn dog so he could share it with either me or Stacy Moss.

I'm guessing the kid was offering some of his lunch to Stacy since she's the director of the learning center. Even 2-year-olds can figure out it's a good idea to butter up the boss.

Not that the kids at the center need to butter up Stacy. From what I can tell, the kids pretty much come first - butter or no butter.

O-Gah-Pah is not your everyday preschool. Oh, and here's a tip. When talking to Stacy about the Learning Center never - and I mean never- refer to the place as a day care.

The O-Gah-Pah Learning Center is just what the name implies.

'We create learning opportunities out of every event. Our children are not sitting in front of a television and watching TV,' she said."
